Grey Matter and Embarcadero headed to Dublin and London on 5 and 6 March 2019 to deliver sessions on what’s new in RAD Studio 10.3.1, Community Edition, as well as Delphi modernisation and architectures. These sessions were led by Marco Cantù, Senior Delphi Product Manager at Embarcadero. For those who missed it, here are Marco’s slides from the roadshow.

Overall it was a great event. Grey Matter and Embarcadero got to speak to the Delphi developers on the emerald isle, something we haven’t done for a while. And in London, we got the chance to see both old friends and new faces.

Here is what Marco said of the events: “I was very happy to present Delphi 10.3.1 Rio events in Dublin and London, which had good attendance by many developers interested in Delphi evolution (and to a lesser extent C++Builder).

Both events were 4 hours long, mostly technical sessions, alternating between a 100-slide long deck and many practical examples and live demos. The sessions covered what’s new in recent versions of the product, focusing on the overall value proposition of RAD Studio. There was a significant focus on migration of existing code on old versions and based on old technology to modern architectures (in terms of UI, Windows 10 support, building mobile apps in general and companion mobile apps in particular, migrating database access code to FireDAC, building modern REST-based web services with RAD Server).

In summary, there is a lot of interest from customers using old versions to migrate to 10.3. The focus was Windows client development, and new features in VCL were highly appreciated. Very few in the audience had experience building mobile apps – the presentation sparked some interest in this area. Delphi language changes and IDE UI improvements were highly appreciated, and there was interest for App Tethering and mobile companion apps.”

The initial feedback we received from the London event suggests that the event location (central London, Euston), the speaker, and the networking are the main highlights.
